Advanced Heat Treat Corp. is looking for a leader to perform aerospace product process functions at our Waterloo, Iowa location, at 2825 MidPort Blvd. 

This position is responsible for coordinating all incoming and outgoing review for aerospace jobs. This position will also perform laboratory release procedures related to heat treating processes.


  • Bachelor's in Materials Engineering or Industrial Technology
  • Lab release using hardness tester experience
  • Laboratory setting experience
  • Metallurgical science experience
  • CAD reverse engineering education or experience preferred
  • Non-destructive Testing education or experience preferred
  • Strong computer skills, attention to detail, customer communication and ability to work within tight deadlines is a must.



  1. Performs incoming and outgoing review of aerospace orders to ensure compliance to the applicable specifications. (Contract review, processing temperature and work orders)
  2. Utilizes various computer systems to ensure reviews are thorough and information is reviewed correctly.
  3. Ensure that all incoming and outgoing inspection of order requests are completed timely and do not hold up production of shipping.
  4. Communicate issues to the relevant personnel. (Quality and/or Production) to get resolved quickly.
  5. Ensure detailed work instruction notes are kept current on how to review paperwork.
  6. Incoming and outgoing tracking graph and monthly meeting.
  7. 7. During NADCAP audits show compliance for historical jobs and assist with audit checklist compliance.


(1) Main customer interface for aerospace questions.

(2) Manage process improvements on aerospace "hold" jobs to eliminate reasons for "hold" status.

(3) Form teams to address issues. Facilitate meetings and assign action items.

(4) Understand AMS specs, customer specifications, and NADCAP requirements.

(5) Investigate aerospace tooling needs and reverse engineer options to CAD/ Engineering drawings in order to present for approval to customer.


(1) Determines compliance with quality specifications by cutting, mounting, polishing and analyzing processed parts.

(2) Tests metallographic samples, including analysis by determining micro-hardness profiles, etching for analysis of case depth/ microstructure and performs other various metallographic inspections of samples.

(3) Identifies and documents microstructures that are not normally obtained for the particular material and processing parameters.

(4) Assists Metallurgy/ Quality in resolving non-conforming product troubleshooting.

(5) Documents metallographic (structure and case depth) analysis by entering laboratory results into computer programs.

(6) Completes appropriate paperwork, including the preparation and sign-off (if qualified) of lab certifications.

(7) Documents all testing results in accordance with the Metallurgical Laboratory Procedures Manual.


(1) Internal Audit training and functions. Work with Operations on certified operator program and testing.

(2) Aerospace process improvements and team lead into corrective actions of defective product.

(3) Work on special projects to update customer certification master files to ensure that all have the correct revision for their respective customer.
